Ténéré 700 Crash Bars and Racks: The 2019 to 2026 Buyer's Guide (Which Fit Your Year)

The right crash bars and racks for a Yamaha Ténéré 700 depend on one thing first: your model year. Owners of 2019 to 2024 bikes can run SRC's original upper, lower, or full crash bar sets. 2025 and 2026 bikes have slightly wider upper bodywork, so they need the new 2025-2026 full set (the original lower bars still fit). For carrying gear, pick the Full Rack System V1 if you run soft side luggage, or the Cargo Tail Rack V2 if you want grab rails, passenger seat access and a bigger tail load. Below we break down fitment by year, upper vs lower bars, skid plate compatibility, and which rack suits your riding.

Which Ténéré 700 crash bars fit my year?

Yamaha changed the T7 twice in ways that matter for protection: an exhaust update for Euro 5 (North American bikes got it for the 2022 model year, a year later than some other markets) and wider upper bodywork for 2025. Here is how SRC's kits line up:

Your Ténéré 700 Full / upper bars Lower bars Racks
2019 to 2024 2019-2024 set (full $688, upper $426) 2019-2024 set ($318) Full Rack V1 (2020+) or Tail Rack V2
2025 2025-2026 full set ($718 black, $788 silver) 2019-2024 lower set fits Full Rack V1 or Tail Rack V2
2026 2025-2026 full set 2019-2024 lower set fits Tail Rack V2

Are crash bars worth it on a Ténéré 700?

For most riders, yes. Ask in any T7 owners' group and you will hear both sides: hard-core dirt riders who strip weight to the bone, and travelers who never leave home without bars. The honest answer comes down to how and where you ride.

  • Worth it if you ride loaded, travel far from a dealer, ride gravel or two-track like the Backcountry Discovery Routes, or simply drop the bike in parking lots and trailheads. A tip-over that cracks a radiator, tank panel or headlight surround can end a trip in a remote area.
  • Maybe skip them if you ride light, hard enduro-style terrain and fall often at low speed, where every pound matters more than plastic.

No crash bar makes a bike crash-proof. What good bars do is take the hit at the strong points so the expensive and trip-ending parts do not. SRC bars use 1" (25mm) steel tube with a 1/8" (3mm) wall, CNC laser-cut mounting brackets for a precise fit, and sacrificial heavy-duty guards at the main impact zones. After a tip-over you replace a low-cost pad, not a whole bar.

Do I need upper bars, lower bars, or the full set?

Each half protects a different part of the bike, and on the 2019-2024 kit you can buy them separately and add the other half later.

Lower bars Upper bars Full set
Protects Engine cases, radiator sides, your lower leg Tank panels, fairing, headlight surround Everything above
Weight 7.6 lb (3.4 kg) 14.8 lb (6.7 kg) 22.4 lb (10.2 kg)
Best for Dirt-focused riders who want low weight Riders worried about expensive plastics Loaded travel and remote trips

Our take: if you ride mostly dirt and want to stay light, start with the lowers, since they protect the engine and your foot in a low-speed fall. If your T7 is your travel bike, go straight to the full set. It costs less than buying both halves separately ($688 vs $744) and covers the parts that are hardest to source on the road.

Can I run crash bars with a skid plate?

Yes, in most setups. SRC crash bars work with the stock Yamaha skid plate and most aftermarket skid plates. Both the bars and SRC skid plates come with spacers at the shared mounting points: run either part alone and the spacer stays in, add the second part and you remove the spacer to make room for its bracket.

The one exception to know: on 2022 and later bikes, SRC's lower crash bars (like most lower bars on the market) do not fit together with the SRC V2 skid plate. If you already run that plate, its wing extensions cover much of the lower engine anyway, so pair it with the upper bars instead.

Which Ténéré 700 rack should I choose?

The T7 has no grab handle and almost nowhere to strap gear from the factory, so a rack is one of the first upgrades most owners make. SRC makes two, and they suit different riders.

The Full Rack System V1: tail rack plus left and right side racks for soft luggage.
Full Rack System V1 Cargo Tail Rack V2
Price $288 $288
Fits 2020 to 2025 (not with the Rally seat) 2020 to 2026
What you get Tail rack, left and right side racks, rear cross brace Aluminum top plate on a chromoly tube frame with grab rails
Best for Soft side bags (the side racks stand off the plastics to stop rubbing) Bigger tail bags, fuel cans, lifting the bike out of ruts
Battery and air filter access Remove the top rack first No rack removal needed
Extras No drilling, about 30 minutes with hand tools Rated to 22 lb (10 kg), pre-drilled for SRC 3L fuel can, doubles as rear crash protection

Choose the V1 if you travel with soft panniers like Kriega and want a complete, lightweight aluminum system in one box. Choose the V2 if you ride technical trails, want something solid to grab when the bike is stuck, or carry a large tail bag or extra fuel. The V2's tube frame sits slightly wider than the bike, so it also takes the hit on the rear in a tip-over.

The SRC Ténéré 700 builds we recommend

  • The trail build: lower crash bars + Cargo Tail Rack V2. Light, protects the engine and your foot, and gives you a grab handle when the bike is buried. From $606.
  • The travel build (2019-2024): full crash bar set + Full Rack System V1 for soft bags. From $976.
  • The 2025-2026 travel build: 2025-2026 full set + Cargo Tail Rack V2. From $1,006.

Frequently asked questions

Will 2019-2024 Ténéré 700 crash bars fit a 2025?

The lower bars do. The upper bars do not, because Yamaha made the upper bodywork slightly wider for 2025. For a 2025 or 2026 T7, use the SRC 2025-2026 full set.

How much weight do Ténéré 700 crash bars add?

SRC's lower bars weigh 7.6 lb (3.4 kg) and the uppers 14.8 lb (6.7 kg), so a full set adds 22.4 lb (10.2 kg). That is the trade-off for 1" steel tube that can take repeated tip-overs.

Do crash bars work with the stock skid plate?

Yes. SRC crash bars fit with the stock skid plate and most aftermarket plates. The only conflict is SRC lower bars with the SRC V2 skid plate on 2022 and later bikes.

Can I still carry a passenger with a rear rack?

The V1 tail rack sits over the passenger seat, so it is a solo setup. The V2 tail rack sits about 10mm above the stock passenger seat; check that your passenger has room before relying on it for two-up riding.

Does SRC Moto ship to Canada?

Yes, we ship to Canada and worldwide from Oregon. Canadian customers may pay import duties or taxes on delivery. US orders ship by USPS Priority Mail (1 to 3 days with tracking) or UPS/FedEx for larger parts, and because Oregon has no sales tax, none is added at checkout.
