MOTO STUFF LED Driving Light Upgrade

2017-2020 HONDA CRF Rally 250L 

2021-2025 300L Rally 

When we read early reviews of the Rally, the stock LED headlights got some good praises, so we were looking forward to not having to do any lighting upgrades to our new bikes. However, after owning our bikes for a while and logging some night miles, it became clear that there is considerable room for improvement in the lighting department. The stock LED system is OK for around town, but if you are traveling back roads, the stock beam pattern is too narrow and short. And there is also a large dead area right in the middle of the pattern that is lacking illumination. To resolve the issue, we researched mounting options and began testing high-end lamps from PIAA, RIGID, BAJA Designs and CYCLOPS. The result of our testing is a plug-and-play kit that can easily be installed in about 30 minutes with common hand tools and requires no cutting into the electrical system. The MOTO STUFF DayLighter kit features the class-leading BLACK OAK LED PRO 2.0 driving lamp offering the best value and performance in our opinion.  

Our bracket system provides 4 hard rubber isolated mounting points on the Rally tower, so the lamp is securely mounted and will not move out of adjustment even in harsh off-road conditions. 

Easily installed in about an hour with common hand tools and no cutting of the wiring harness as it plugs directly into the Rally's accessory socket! 

Our wire harness uses high-end DEUTSCH waterproof connectors and takes advantage of the Rally's powered auxiliary port inside the left fairing for power. And as a bonus, we've integrated an additional auxiliary port into our harness, so you can add our 12 Volt socket or USB charging accessories. (the Rally auxiliary port is a switched 15 amp circuit. Our light upgrade requires 5 amps, so that leaves enough reserve to power a dual USB or 12-volt socket accessory)  We've also automated the switching by integrating a waterproof Hitachi micro-relay that is controlled by the Rally's semi-CANBUS controller, which automatically triggers the lamp to switch on when the high beam is selected. 

The BLACK OAK LED PRO 2.0 Driving light used in our kit retails for $218 by itself. This is a popular lamp and performs comparably to lights used by top Adventure Motorcycle companies in their  BMW and KTM adventure bike premium lighting kits priced at between $700 and $800.

The Black Oak LED PRO 2.0 is designed to project light at extreme distances while consuming very little power. The single biggest complaint from CRF 250l owners is that the suspension is sprung way too light and the damping is inadequate. The bike seems to be set up for a 100-pound beginner rider- Here's how to fix that.  A heavier spring or adjusting the pre-load will not resolve the issue. 

Ohlins STX46 Shock for 2013-2020 CRF 250L  The shock is equipped with a stiffer spring for 150-185 lb riders (68 - 84 kg) and offers precise rebound and damping control.  (If you are installing on an ABS model, please click here to view the ABS install supplement sheet)  The kit comes with great instructions and there is an installation video below.  

Unfortunately, Ohlins does not offer a stiffer spring for the 250L. The best you can do is run the compression and rebound 20% firmer than normal and run your preload at the stiffer end of the sag setting.

HONDA was nice enough to include a handy 10 AMP* switched accessory lead connector that is clipped to a metal bracket just behind the bottom of the left radiator (see photo in product listing), however, they have yet to release an accessory lead to plug into it! So we picked up the ball and sourced the correct original HONDA waterproof connectors. Leads are 24" long and allow for safe routing from the lower-left radiator area following the factory harness routing to the instrument cluster or handlebar area. 

Plug and play Do-It-Yourself accessory lead version is easy to install,  just unclip the stock connector cap, connect this lead and attach to your accessory with the included posi lock quick connectors! Posi Lock instructions are included in each kit.  D-I-Y Kit includes 24" 2 circuit lead ( 18 gauge red 12V+ and Black ground) terminated with Posi Lock connectors with abrasion sheath and 2 black zip ties for secure installation.  Posi-Lock® Connectors have been put to the test worldwide since 1997. Superior in-line splices with just hand tightening! These electrical connectors require no crimping or soldering.  An electrical connector that meets the needs of todays OEM's, and is so good, it's reusable. Truly a connector for the 21st century.

The Fork kit comes with 2 springs, one light spring for riders up to 175 lbs and one stiffer for 175+ riders. The kit also includes billet fork caps with integrated air bleeders to allow easy air bleed and keep your suspension nice and plush!

 PLEASE NOTE!  The CRF 250L and Rally models only have 1 fork spring and it is housed inside the right fork leg. Also, there is a single aluminum spring spacer included in the Ohlins fork spring kit, it is used on the standard 250L and goes on top of the right spring. It is not used on the Rally. This is covered in the provided instructions, but folks are overlooking it.

Fitting: NB - Some bikes already have web loops attached to the seat-pad/base. In this case we still recommend the fitting of the Kriega loops, as fitting to the subframe is far stronger than to the seat.

Remove bike seat and locate the best mounting areas on the rear subframe. It may be necessary to slot the internal plastic tray if no subframe metalwork is exposed. Attach the 4x 20mm web loops securely to high strength areas of the frame. The 20mm loops are adjustable in length. Final adjustments should be carried out with the seat/pad fitted. Once set, the web must be threaded back through the adjuster to lock-off the webbing. See the threading diagram on this page. To fit the US-pack, hook on the web loop, attach the top quick-release buckle and cinch down the bag on to the bike. Always use the 2 x strap keepers on the web to manage the loose ends. PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, no heavier springs are available for the stock shock. Plus the stock shock rebound damping is way too light and that would make it unsafe to ride with a  stiffer spring (it could easily rebound you over the handlebars on certain types of bumps off-road), so the only proper solution is to upgrade the stock shock as the stock suspension is set up for a beginner 120 lb rider and is not adjustable.  It’s probably OK if you are just riding on the street with no cargo or passenger, but if you plan to go off-road at all the suspension will need to be upgraded.

SRC Bare Dash Panel 2021-2025 CRF 300L Rally ONLY! 

Add some room for switches and electrical accessories in an ergonomically safe and accessible location around the perimeter of the stock instrument panel.  Constructed of 16 gauge steel powder coated a nice satin black. 

ABS Models, please note: You will have to relocate your ABS switch. Details in video at the bottom of this page. 

To install, you'll need to remove the instrument panel. This is fairly easy. It takes about half an hour with common hand tools.  We recommend watching our LED turn signal video as it clearly shows how to remove the windscreen,  the headlight assembly and then you have easy access the 3 screws that hold the instrument panel in place as well as the wiring harness connector. With the panel removed, position the Rally Dash into place end then simply re-install the panel, headlight and windscreen and you are ready to wire up some switches and install your favorite electrical accessories! 

ABS models will require you to relocate the ABS switch bracket. 

The upper outlet port diameter is 1-1/8" 

The lower switch ports are 1/2" diameter openings.

The single biggest complaint from CRF 300L and Rally owners is that the suspension is sprung way too light and the damping is inadequate. The bike seems to be set up for a 100-pound beginner rider- Here's how to fix that.  A heavier spring or adjusting the pre-load will not resolve the issue. 

Front Fork kit fits 2021-2025 CRF 300L & Rally/Rally ABS   
The Fork kit comes with 3 springs, one light spring for 300L riders up to 175 lbs (7.5N/mm), one stiffer for 175+ 300L and Rally riders (8.5N/mm), the last hard spring for Rally riders (9.5N/mm). The kit also includes billet fork caps with integrated air bleeders to allow easy air bleed and keep your suspension nice and plush!

 PLEASE NOTE!  The CRF 300L and Rally models only have 1 fork spring and it is housed inside the right fork leg. Also, there is a single aluminum spring spacer included in the Ohlins fork spring kit, it goes on top of the right spring.
